Synthesis, Characterization and Biological effect Study of Some New azo and bis (Azo–Schiff ) Compounds Derived from 2, 4-Dihydroxybenzaldehyde

The objective of this work was to prepare azo and bis(azo- schiff base) derivatives from 2 , 4-Dihydroxybenzaldehyde which has extensive use in the synthesis of organic compounds. The azo-compound (A1-A3) were prepared from the coupling reaction between prepared diazonium salt and with 2, 4-Dihydroxybenzaldehyde . A series of Schiff base have been prepared from prepared compounds (A1 – A3) were reacted in acidic condition with different substituted aromatic diamine in ethanol to give fourteen new bis (azo – Schiff base) (A4-A17) in good yields. The final products were identified by their physical properties besides their FTIR and 1H NMR spectra. Biological activity of the compounds (A4- A17) were investigated and compounds (A13 and A14) showed activity against E. coli .
